Bodrum
Only 25km away from Lakeside Garden is the town of Bodrum, site of the Halicarnassus Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but known today as the St Tropez of Turkey due to its large marina and its blend of native and cosmopolitan culture.
Built on a peninsula formed by the meeting of the eastern and western harbours, Bodrum, with its narrow streets winding down to the sea, is famous for its castle, its world-renowned yachts, its shipyards and the dazzling white houses and tombs lining the shores of its two harbours.
Bodrum has all the facilities to meet the expectations of tourists from all income levels ranging from the rich yacht owners to the penny counting tourists who just want a reasonable room to make his vacation last all summer.
Bodrum experienced the dominance of various civilizations throughout the history such as Persians, Mecedonians, Roman Empire and Byzantines. Byzantines lost their power in Anatolian region after they were defeated by the Seljuk Ruler Alpaslan at Malazgirt in 1071. Rhodian knights had constructed the present Bodrum castle and established their rule over the region. Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent on his military expedition to Rhodes conquered Bodrum together with Rhodes and added them to the territory of Ottoman Empire.

Day trips from Bodrum include Pamukkale, Ephesus and Iassos amongst others.
Other day trips include jeep safaris, diving and snorkelling, and horse riding.
Ferry trips from Bodrum to Samos, Kos and Rhodes also operate. The journey takes around 20 minutes each way on a hydrofoil.
Güllük
Instead of turning right on the highway to Bodrum turn left to Gulluk.
Imagine a place located in a bay surrounded by Olive Groves and Pine Forests and mountains. The seaviews and sunsets are spectacular. It has a traditional village feel with buildings old and new. It has a weekly Thursday market that sells local produce from surrounding villages. Local shops, restaurants, bars, supermarket, bank, a selection of ATM machines all within the town centre. Fishing boats come and go bringing their daily catch to the port's seafront shops.
